Kaku

A workspace that never phones home

The Kaku block editor showing a page titled “Kiln Firing Log” with two headings and bulleted lists, beside a nested page sidebar.

Kaku is a local-first notes and database workspace with the shape of Notion and none of the cloud behind it. There is no account and no subscription, and your data is a SQLite file on your own disk that you can open, copy or back up with any tool you like.

Everything is a block: text, headings, lists, toggles and embeds all nest and reorder by dragging. Pages nest infinitely, and full-text search runs against the local database.

Still early. The foundation, the block editor and the page tree work today; databases and their table, board, calendar and gallery views are the next phases.

What it does

  • Block editor with slash commands, nesting and drag-to-reorder
  • Infinitely nested pages, favourites and trash
  • Full-text search across the local database
  • Databases with table, board, calendar, gallery and timeline views
  • Your data is a SQLite file you own outright
  • No account, no cloud, no subscription
